Gibou is a brand committed to its values. We make our decisions and explore new avenues for business growth while ensuring that these values are always upheld.

Caring

We care about others, both within our immediate team and with our stakeholders. This involves mutual support, assistance, and inclusivity. We aspire to showcase body diversity and respect for differences.

Eco-responsibility

We take concrete actions to make our products as eco-friendly as possible. Whether it’s through local production, repurposing materials, reducing plastic, or using minimalist packaging, we remain engaged and inventive in improving our practices.

Quality

Our products are well-designed, always beautiful, and above all, durable. Fashion can be ephemeral, but what we create at Gibou is made to last. Our local production, often handmade, allows us to control the quality of everything we create.

Creativity

Creativity is at the heart of what we do every day. We are always looking to renew ourselves and find our interpretation of trends. Here, we never stagnate: we continuously improve our products so that their practicality, style, and comfort always evolve.

History

The founder, Sarah Beaudoin, launched the company in September 2014, driven by her passion for knitting, particularly for making winter hats. The previous winter, she had developed a model with a wild cat fur pom-pom made from an old family fur coat. This hat, which had become a sensation among her circle, was knitted because she couldn’t find a beanie in stores that met her two essential needs: warmth and aesthetics. Thus, this first model became, six months later, the "classic model" of her first collection. From the beginning, the company’s values were defined to respect three essential aspects: local production, the use of strictly recycled fur, and the promotion of noble materials.

After being overwhelmed with orders before the 2014 holidays, the idea of involving retirees emerged. They share the same passion for manual work as the founder. When they run out of yarn, they say they feel "withdrawal"… a true addiction!

Since 2018, the company has established an in-house manufacturing process, working with local suppliers as Sarah decided to launch her first summer collection consisting of headbands and beach towels. It was crucial to maintain the local and eco-friendly aspect of this collection while offering beautiful and trendy products. The inspiration for this collection came from the knots of knitted yarn.

In 2021, Gibou launched a new range of self-care products for home pampering. In 2024, a sports collection is making its debut in the world of Gibou.
